The envelope method is a cash-based budgeting system where you divide your monthly income into physical (or digital) envelopes, each labeled for a specific spending category. This method sets a clear, finite limit on your funds. Once a specific envelope runs out, you must either stop spending in that category or make the conscious decision to pull from another envelope. The overall fixed, finite amount of funds does not change, just the categorical envelope. It's especially effective for people who struggle with overspending in discretionary categories. This method allows you to physically see your money moving in and out (cash flow) and helps set spending boundaries.
